Seasonal Vehicle Care Guidelines

How physical weather changes across the UK dictate your vehicle’s exterior cleaning and paint protection needs.

The UK Environmental Challenge

Caring for a vehicle in the UK is uniquely challenging. From damp autumn leaf deposits to corrosive winter road salt and summer pollen, different seasons bring different environmental contaminants that threaten your vehicle's paint, wheels, and interior cabin.

Our Four-Season Maintenance Guide

We configure our vehicle-care recommendations around seasonal weather patterns to help protect key areas of your car before environmental damage can start.

1. Winter: Defensive Shielding (November – February)

This is the most critical season for UK vehicles. Highway agencies apply heavy amounts of coarse rock salt to clear roads, which kicked-up onto undercarriages, door sills, and suspension components, accelerating corrosion.

  • Focus: Under-body rinsing and thick barrier waxes or sealants to isolate clearcoats.
  • Advice: Wash your car every two weeks to prevent salt buildup, and apply wheel sealants to protect alloys from road salt and brake dust damage.

2. Spring: Organic Removal (March – May)

As plants begin to bloom, fine tree pollen and sticky sap settle on wet morning panels. These sticky residues can dry in the sun, bonding to and etching clearcoat layers.

  • Focus: Non-abrasive paint pre-washes and safe chemical spot cleaning.
  • Advice: Use pre-wash snow foam to safely loosen sticky biological residues without dragging them across the paint and causing scratches.

3. Summer: UV & Highway Debris (June – August)

Strong UV rays can degrade paint binders over time, causing color fading. At the same time, high-speed bug splats on hot motorways release acidic enzymes that can eat into untreated clearcoats in just a few days.

  • Focus: UV-stable waxes and rapid bug splatter chemical neutralization.
  • Advice: Keep a clean, damp microfibre handy to gently dab away bug splats before they baking in the sun and permanently damage your clearcoat.

4. Autumn: Mildew Prevention (September – October)

Falling leaves accumulate in windshield scuttle panels. If leaves clog these drains, rainwater can overflow into the interior cabin, creating damp carpets, musty smells, and foggier windshields.

  • Focus: Cleaning drainage pathways and applying protective hydrophobic coatings to glass.
  • Advice: Clear leaves from windshield drains and apply high-performance hydrophobic sealants to your glass to improve visibility during dark, wet drives.
